If you’ve been wondering why Kevin Durant is still flying solo, well, wonder no more. The basketball star recently shared some insight into his relationship status, and let’s just say he’s not in a rush to settle down. On a recent podcast, Durant revealed that he is still single because he believes you can have a girlfriend but she ain’t yours.
Durant’s perspective on relationships may be unconventional, but it’s certainly refreshing to hear a public figure speak openly about their views on love and dating. He values honesty and autonomy in his relationships, which is a rare and admirable trait in today’s world of celebrity romances.
The veteran was once engaged to Monica Wright, a basketball coach and ex-player, but the couple parted ways in 2014. Although there’ve been speculations ever since the man himself has now revealed his relationship status.
On the ‘Impaulsive’ podcast with Logan Paul alongside IShowSpeed, KD was asked why he was single. In response, he clearly replied, saying, “I don’t want a girlfriend.” Further, when IShowSpeed guessed that the 2x NBA champion had his heart broken, Kevin Durant responded, “I wouldn’t say I had my heart broken. I’ve uh..I started to understand women a little bit more as I well early on I understood that like she’s not mine.”
The nuances of a romantic relationship resonating with young hearts all across the globe echoed in Kevin Durant’s words when he further added, “Even if she may be my girlfriend, she might be influenced by other people.”
However, Logan’s co-host interrupted Kevin, citing that the 2x NBA All-Star was measuring himself quite low on the love scale. Durant continued that he doesn’t mind love till everything is going well. However, in case the opposite partner is “venturing off,” he will not hesitate to go the other way. So, the Suns’ star would accept the fact that it is what it is.
Back in April, Monica Wright was speaking to Essence about her broken engagement with Kevin Durant. She was open to talking about the same, as she said, “Yeah, in my last relationship [with NBA All-Star Kevin Durant], I had to make a decision about compromising myself as a woman. I had to make a decision to leave a relationship, which a lot of people thought I was crazy to leave. There was a lot of criticism over it. But I think God had my back in it.”
You may now wonder what the NBA star said about all this. Well, he had spoken about this relationship in 2015 itself. “I had a fiancée, but…I really didn’t know how to, like, love her, you know what I’m saying? We just went our separate ways,” he admitted. So, as per various forums and no concrete updates from KD, he’s perceived to be single ever since. What about the controversy from a few months ago?
So, if you were hoping to see Durant walk down the aisle anytime soon, it looks like you might have to wait a little longer. But hey, who needs a ring when you’ve got a MVP trophy, right? Durant is clearly focused on his career and personal growth, and if a relationship fits into that picture, great. But if not, he’s perfectly content flying solo.
In a world where so much emphasis is placed on finding “the one” and settling down, it’s refreshing to see someone like Durant embrace his single status with confidence and grace. Who knows, maybe one day he’ll find someone who shares his views on relationships and is willing to be all his. Until then, Durant is happy being his number-one fan, and that’s pretty awesome if you ask me.
