Among the players competing for Team USA in the 2024 Olympics are LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant. The trio is preparing to take home a gold medal, realizing that this may be their final chance to compete in the Summer Games before they retire. Kevin Garnett, though, thinks James and the other senior members of the team may have had another reason in mind when they decided to take part in the event every four years.
Kevin Garnett gave his reasoning for thinking that King James, Curry, and other established talents were playing in the 2024 Paris Games during a conversation with Paul Pierce about the USA men’s basketball team.

They will undoubtedly be thinking about the desired gold medal. Garnett, though, thinks that they are really doing this to gain more practice for the 2024–2025 NBA season rather than as a true team. Garnett stated,
“This is my theory on why they jumped into USA because you can never get in game shape in the summer on your own… I’m telling you with Bron and everybody being older, you have to start a little earlier to get your body going in the summer. When they come into USA it’s going to be about preparing for that first week and getting them for that first push of the season,”
Given that KG has previously represented Team USA, he undoubtedly has experience in this area. Compared to the younger players in training camp, the more experienced players on the team will need more time to prepare and get in condition for the regular season. According to the Big Ticket, Anthony Edwards’ progress following his participation in the FIBA 2023 World Cup has also served as incentive.
