Adam Sandler Talks About His Untold QB History To Travis Kelce

For the third season of the New Heights podcast, the Kelce brothers are back, and they couldn’t be more impressive. Adam Sandler, the comedic superstar, stunned everyone by making an appearance, following the NFL’s favorite brother duo’s announcement of a big contract with Amazon’s Wondery. They even managed to get him to divulge some insider information.

When questioned about his portrayal of Robert Boucher in “The Waterboy,” actor Adam Sandler stated that the character was greatly influenced by his early football experiences.

The 1998 sports comedy “The Waterboy” tells the tale of Bobby Boucher, a 31-year-old University of Louisiana football team waterboy who finds he has a knack for tackling.

Adam Sandler talks to Travis Kelce about his Quarterback dreams

Although baseball was his first love, Sandler—who also co-wrote the movie—played quarterback in Pop Warner football until he was a teenager. He didn’t fully appreciate the game until his team coach saw his ability and persuaded his parents to let him start at quarterback. He disclosed:

“I was playing baseball and I was a pitcher. Ken Stillman, the coach of the team came over and talked to my parents and said maybe Adam could be a QB. So I got on the team and played two years at Pop Warner and it was amazing.”

This history not only influenced his performance in “The Waterboy,” but it also gave Bobby’s character more realism and combined comedy relief with real-life football expertise.

Due to his passion and interest in sports, Sandler has produced numerous successful sports films. He portrayed a golfer in “Happy Gilmore,” an outside linebacker in “The Waterboy,” and a quarterback in “The Longest Yard.”
