As Tyreek Hill Refuses to Race IShowSpeed, Fans React

Popular YouTuber IShowSpeed recently publicly challenged NFL player Tyreek Hill to a 40-yard sprint contest. Although many perceived IShowSpeed, formerly known as Darren Jason Watkins Jr., as merely another attention-grabbing stunt, he surprised everyone by turning up at the Dolphins‘ training camp in anticipation of the race. But in the end, Hill declined to participate, which made fans wonder if the NFL player was afraid of failing.

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill (10) runs onto the field during pregame ceremonies of an NFL game against the Las Vegas Raiders at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Nov. 19, 2023.

Being live practically all the while, IShowSpeed recorded his conversation with Hill in order to draw attention to the WR’s denial of his challenge. The youthful streamer, who was facing the camera, also chastised Hill for not entering a race against the person who claims to be the fastest in the world:

“Tyreek Hill, y’all see it right here, live right now, he’s ducking, he doesn’t want to race the fastest person in the world.”

In response, Hill finally said that he would only race for money when he was ready, suggesting that he wouldn’t jeopardize his health in order to gain influence on social media. He declared:

“Whenever I pull up on you, in a full suit, with a briefcase — you know what’s in the briefcase — with my shoes on, ready to run; you know what time it is bro.”

Fans react to Tyreek Hill’s refusal to race

Fans weren’t persuaded despite Tyreek’s reasonable points, given the possibility of injury and the potential damage on the Dolphins’ season. They took his reluctance as an indication of weakness.

Furthermore, based on his YouTube videos, Tyreek appears to be just as strong an athlete as anyone else, despite the absurdity of suggesting he would fail. As a result, some conjectured that the streamer might be quicker than the Dolphins’ main player. Check it out for yourself:

Putting aside the humor, Hill’s response to the streamer raises the possibility that the two will compete in a race in the future. And while that is still to be determined, their prior sporting achievements have brought them both a great deal of attention now.
