The moment a cop was lifted onto the roof where gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks had taken up position is captured in dramatic new footage from the attempted assassination of Donald Trump.
Recently released body cam video from the July 13 event in Butler, Pennsylvania features this view from the police officer who encountered Crooks on the roof.
The entire video lasts six minutes, of which the first two are silent but show the police officer being hauled up to the American Glass Research Building’s roof.
This is the same officer who says Crooks aimed his rifle at him in the style of an AR-15.

Following the altercation, the officer went to the ground and reported over radio that Crooks had a “long gun” strapped to him.
The officer is seen on the roof for a brief period of time in the footage before jumping down and taking off like a bat out of hell. Crooks is not seen in this segment of the video.
The cop then dashes around the side of the structure, heading toward the platform where Trump is speaking. Although there is no sound at this point, the timing suggests that Crooks started shooting at 6:11 p.m.
When the police return to their squad car with a larger gun and more support, mayhem breaks out as they reenter the roof where the gunman is now laying dead.
