The unchallenged G.O.A.T. of gymnastics, Simone Biles, wowed the world during the Paris Olympics, but her path wasn’t without difficulties. Throughout the games, the 27-year-old superstar not only had to overcome physical obstacles but also severe emotional difficulties.
Biles had to contend with a calf issue from the beginning, which happened even before the first event. Despite having a significant limp, she battled through the team competition and went on to win the individual all-around, beam, floor, and vault competitions. The injuries, though she never acknowledged it out loud, was a persistent shadow that affected everything she did.
Simone Biles details her mental suffering
But the struggle went beyond the bodily suffering. In addition, Biles had to deal with the mentally crippling “twisties,” which caused her Tokyo Olympics to fail. She felt disoriented in midair as a result of this phenomena, which is terrible for any gymnast. It’s no easy task to overcome the twisties, and many athletes never fully bounce back.
“I solely did it for myself and I’m in a really good spot mentally and physically.”

Biles made the decision to go back, all by herself, even though she was under a lot of pressure to compete in Paris from both the gymnastics community and fans. She remained unaffected by criticism or expectations from others. She declared:
“It was important to me because nobody forced me to be out there on that stage. I solely did it for myself and I’m in a really good spot mentally and physically. So doing this for just me meant the world,”
