Naturally, there are high expectations for him from the entire league when he makes his professional debut. Bill Belichick, the former coach of the Patriots, isn’t buying into the hype just yet, though.

Having seen Williams in action during the preseason, Belichick quickly formed an unfavorable image of the iconic coach. Following an assessment of Williams’ play, Belichick shared his thoughts on the rookie quarterback’s debut campaign. Belichick gave a direct evaluation of Williams’ preseason performance in a statement on Inside the NFL:

But in his preseason debut, Williams faced a number of the Bills’ starters, and the Bears prevailed 33-6. He produced two successful field-goal drives and completed four out of seven throws for 95 yards.
Sure, he went 10 for 20, but his success also depended heavily on the receivers he had at his disposal. Even though he might not have been “accurate,” he showed impressive arm strength, playmaking abilities, and mobility beyond the pocket.
All things considered, Belichick has molded great athletes like Tom Brady and possesses an eagle’s eye for talent development. To someone who gambled on Brady all those years ago, his view is very important.
If Belichick decides to hold off on making a decision regarding Caleb, the rookie quarterback may find inspiration to be more reliable if he is to succeed in the NFL. The seasoned coach is controlling his expectations for the time being.
