Hours before the Dolphins vs. Jaguars game last week, Dolphins standout Tyreek Hill was taken into custody by Miami Police. The Dolphins wide receiver complied with the police, but video from the scene shows them using excessive force on him even though he was released prior to the game.
Michael Irvin, a legend of the Cowboys, was also unhappy with the way law enforcement handled the wide receiver. Even though Hill complied with the police, Irvin was horrified by the treatment he received.
The NFL legend asserted on his podcast that Hill politely declined to respond to the policeman’s inquiries about his schedule and requested a ticket in order to get in time for the game.
Michael Irvin talks about Tyreek Hill fiasco
Irvin contended that the wide receiver had the right to refuse to respond to the police officer’s inquiries and to merely receive a ticket for the infraction. He declared: “He was within his rights and the police officer you were wrong for snatching that man out of his car like that and putting him on the ground like that throwing your knee in his back.”
Irvin clarified that the police could only make an arrest if there was an active warrant against the subject, and that Hill had every right to just follow the protocol while staying silent.
According to Irvin, Hill’s refusal to respond to questions after providing the authorities with his license details in this instance led to an escalated situation. To appease the incensed football community, the Miami police declared that they had opened an investigation into the officer and made his bodycam footage public.
