Even though the defending champs were able to keep their perfect start to the season, Patrick Mahomes said he felt like he wasn’t performing well during another difficult game for the Kansas City Chiefs‘ offense against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, September 22.
Although Travis Kelce had another poor performance and Rashee Rice stood tall, the Chiefs won 22–17, but it was another game in which their defense outperformed Kirk Cousins.
At Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Mahomes completed just 66.7% of his passes for 217 yards and two touchdowns, his lowest completion percentage of the season. He also threw one interception.
Patrick Mahomes talks being dissapointed about his season
Patrick Mahomes claims he’s not finding his form yet. He said : “I feel like I haven’t played very well and that’s not a stats thing,”. “I just feel like I’m missing opportunities whenever they’re out there and not throwing the ball in the exact spot I want it to be at. “It’s about me getting back to my fundamentals, putting our guys in the right position, and then we’ve got to execute at a higher level offensively. “If teams are going to make us drive the field, we have to prove that we’re able to do that, and I’m sure we’ll get a lot of the same this next week with the Chargers.”
Head coach Andy Reid’s team blanked the first and fourth quarters, but the Chiefs weathered a late challenge from their hosts in Georgia, who lost by five points after four quarters. Nevertheless, they overtook the Las Vegas Raiders for the lead in the AFC West and maintained their unbeaten start as they attempted to become the first team in history to win three straight Super Bowls.
The Kansas City Chiefs will next travel to California, where they will play the Los Angeles Chargers at So-Fi Stadium on Sunday, September 29. The game is scheduled to begin at 16:25 ET/13:25 PT.
