Longtime Trainer of Jayson Tatum Discusses JT’s Mentality

Jayson Tatum‘s stellar season was marred by his Olympics disaster in Paris. Some observers, pundits, and former players think that these losses will motivate him to get revenge in the next campaign. His trainer, however, asserts that this is completely untrue.

Drew Hanlen claims that the celebrity has an entirely different way of thinking. In an ESPN interview, he clarified that Tatum is happy with his current accomplishments and is comparing his resume to that of Michael Jordan, LeBron James, and Stephen Curry at his age. He said :

“I think a lot of people are like, ‘Oh, he’s out for revenge… I don’t think Jayson looks at it like that. He’s like, ‘Compare my résumé at 27 to Michael Jordan, who never won one at 27. Compare it to LeBron, who had won one. Compare it to Steph, who had one.”

Earlier this week, during the Celtics’ Media Day, the forward made the same suggestion. He stated that his goals were to win and develop as a player rather than become famous. He uttered: “At 26 and I guess as accomplished as I am, I just always feel like, overall, I can still get better…You haven’t seen the best version of Jayson Tatum… I’m only 26, I should continue to keep getting better.”

Tatum doesn’t care to pursue individual awards, and Antonio Daniels thinks that’s the ideal way to think.
