One of the NBA’s emerging stars, Anthony Edwards, has been in the news lately not only for his on-court exploits but also for his audacious trash-talking. NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson gave the young player a sobering reality check in a recent interview, telling him to put more of an emphasis on winning than on talking. Johnson’s criticism follows Edwards’ contentious remarks regarding the time of Michael Jordan, which sparked heated discussion among both players and fans.
When asked about Anthony Edwards’ tendency of trash-talking, Magic Johnson didn’t hold back during an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Before making such audacious remarks, the five-time NBA champion stressed that Edwards needed to work on securing his spot among the sport’s greats. Johnson said : “You might want to talk trash when you’ve won something,”. “But you haven’t won anything.”
In reaction to Edwards’ previous remarks regarding Michael Jordan and his time, Johnson offered his opinion. The youthful star of the Timberwolves made a suggestion that players of today may have ruled the 1990s. Although Johnson thinks Edwards’ confidence is commendable, he feels it’s too soon for a player without any significant recognition to be making such audacious statements.

Magic Johnson Asks Anthony Edwards To Put the game first
Magic Johnson also mentioned that Edwards ought to focus his efforts on contending with the best teams in the game right now. The Timberwolves enjoyed a successful season in 2023–24, winning games against the Phoenix Suns and Denver Nuggets en route to the Western Conference Finals.
But in the end, the Dallas Mavericks eliminated them. Johnson reminded Edwards that a lot of work still needs to be done by using this as an example. Johnson said : “If I’m Anthony Edwards, I’m concerned about the Dallas Mavericks, about OKC, about Boston, about all these great teams,”. “You got beat by the Mavericks. You didn’t make it to the championship. So I’m concentrating on that instead of what happened in a time you weren’t born.”
Johnson’s remarks provide Edwards a very clear message: achievement comes from hard work and accomplishments, not simply words. Even though Edwards exudes confidence, his NBA career is just getting started, and basketball greats like Magic Johnson think that deeds speak louder than words.
