Mike Tyson Discusses His True Motivation for Agreeing to Take on Jake Paul

Mike Tyson has quit smoking to help him prepare for the fight

The highly awaited and contentious bout between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul is now less than two months away. After being postponed from its intended July date, the fight appears to be proceeding despite the age difference between the two fighters. And for that same reason, the fight is taking place at all.

Tyson is 58 years old right now. Paul is 27 years old. Many people, understandably enough, feel that Tyson’s advanced age should prevent this battle from taking place.

The majority of people think the gap will be too great and too risky, while a minority feels Paul should be more concerned about his own health. Tyson aspires to disprove every skeptic.

Mike Tyson wants to prove himself

A video clip of Tyson talking about his age and his desire to influence people’s perceptions of what constitutes “old” was shared online. He said : “I want to change biology, I want to change the way people think about age… People believe as they get older, we become weaker. We become less physically active at a high level. It’s all psychological. If you believe, ‘I feel bad, I feel old’, you’re old. If you believe you feel great then you feel great.”

Tyson could have agreed to fight Paul in order to degrade him or to earn a large salary. Ultimately, though, Tyson merely wants to demonstrate to everyone that he will always be “Iron Mike,” regardless of his age. November 15th is approaching far too soon.
