Baker Mayfield’s Humility After Agreeing to a $100 Million Contract Is Remembered by Rob Gronkowski

Baker Mayfield in action

Having spent eleven years playing with Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski is well-versed in identifying a great leader. Thus, the former tight end saw Baker Mayfield right away as a quarterback who sets an example.

During a discussion on the Dudes on Dudes podcast, Gronk offered a fascinating story that demonstrated Mayfield’s modesty despite a momentous day for the signal-caller. That day (likely March 10, 2024), when the star quarterback inked a three-year, $100 million contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers , the former tight end was working out hard in the weight room.

For Mayfield, however, it remained a typical day. Gronk said :

“He actually signed a three-year $100 million the morning of and he came to the workout session that day and he was like nothing happened,”

“I was breaking some PR records this year in the weight room and he was cheering me on and we were going nuts after the PR records I hit.” “He’s under the bench press. He’s doing the squats with you. He’s doing the deadlifts. What I really like about the dude is, he’s just a normal dude man. He just wants to have a good time.”

“It was just like he showed up and didn’t have an ego, didn’t have a big head or nothing. He just showed up, put the work in that day, and hit some more PRs,”

Mayfield’s mindset carries over into his on-field play. He has more than fulfilled the terms of his enormous deal since signing it.
