Colbie Young, a wide receiver for Georgia, was arrested Tuesday morning on misdemeanor charges of assaulting an unborn child and violence. According to documents obtained by ESPN, the Binghamton, New York native, who transferred to the Bulldogs in December after spending two seasons at Miami, was arrested at 4:18 a.m. ET on a $2,500 bond.
ESPN was informed by a representative of the Georgia sports department that “this is a pending legal matter” and “we will have no further comment at this time.” A 20-year-old woman who claimed to be Young’s ex-girlfriend told police that she went to his apartment around midnight to talk about their relationship, according to the police incident report.
Details regarding Colbie Young case
When she attempted to leave, the woman said that Young grew violent and the confrontation became heated. She claimed that after picking her up, he gave her a firm squeeze around the abdomen and torso. According to the police report, she claimed that she thought Young was attempting to hurt her.
The woman was taken to a hospital in Athens for treatment after police noticed bruises and discolouration on her chest and abdomen. Kim Stephens, Young’s lawyer, gave ESPN a statement. “Colbie Young was arrested last night after he asked his ex-girlfriend to leave his apartment,” stated Stephens. “He didn’t engage in any kind of physical contact with her that would ever be deemed illegal. I expect Mr. Young to be fully exonerated once our investigation is complete and the truth revealed.”
Through five games, Young has caught 11 passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns for the No. 5 Bulldogs (4-1, 2-1 SEC). In 22 games during 2022–2023 with the Hurricanes, he caught 79 passes for 939 yards and 10 touchdowns.
