Gregg Popovich Gives Chris Paul a Lot of Praise After His Spurs Debut

Today, Chris Paul played his first game in a Spurs uniform against the Orlando Magic. The Spurs won 107-97 at home in their preseason opener, which went according to plan. Gregg Popovich praised CP3 after the game. According to the Spurs veteran, Paul has so much experience that all of the players benefit from having him in the team.

Paul has had four teams since 2019. Despite his numerous trades over the past five years, it appears that San Antonio will be his permanent home. The team is fairly young and the franchise is still rebuilding.

His young colleagues, who are still adjusting to the strain of the NBA, will greatly benefit from the Point God’s presence. Popovich stated:  “He’s so wise, and he’s got so much experience. Sometimes I get mesmerized listening to him just say things to players.”

Coming from a coach who has led this club to five championships since 1996, this is a great accolade. Throughout the game, the effect of having CP on the court with a player like Victor Wembanyama was evident.

The game’s high point came when the two joined forces for an incredible slam. Wemby attempted a dunk over Moritz Wagner after CP fired a lob in the last minute of the first quarter. The 20-year-old expressed similar feelings to coach Pop about Paul joining his team after the game.

Wemby remarked: “Being on the court with him certainly feels like he has things in control, so it’s a reassuring a bit. It’s one more teammate I can rely on in tough moments.”

Wemby’s physical characteristics and Paul’s experience might make all the difference for the Spurs.
