Jerry Jones Erupts in a Wild Rant : “I’ll Do What I Want Because It’s My Team”

Following yet another dismal loss over the weekend, the Dallas Cowboys are under increasing pressure. The Detroit Lions defeated America’s Team 47-9 on the 82nd birthday of their owner, Jerry Jones. Given that the Cowboys have now lost three straight home games this season—four if you include their playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers—it’s safe to say that the day didn’t go as he had hoped.

When Jones quarreled with local radio DJs on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday, it was clear how disappointed Dallas was with their current 3-3 record, which is only good enough for third place in the NFC East. Jones said : “You really think you’re gonna sit here with a microphone and tell me all of the things that I’ve done wrong without going over the rights?”.

“Listen, we both know we’re talking to a lot of great fans, a lot of great listeners. And I’m very sorry for what happened out there Sunday. I’m sick about what happened Sunday.”

Jerry Jones losing control of the narrative ?

Former NFL executive Andrew Brandt provided a clear picture of the present situation in Dallas, highlighting the growing pressure on Jones and the Cowboys.

A fan questioned Brandt about the true meaning of Jones’ tirade, and Brandt replied: “It’s my team. I’ll do what I want.”

That interpretation is difficult to dispute, particularly after Jones reaffirmed his position in an interview with The Athletic, saying he was being unfairly “grilled by the tribunal.”

Jones said : “[The] facts are that if I’m going to be grilled by the tribunal, I don’t need it to be by the guys I’m paying,” “I can take it from fans and take it from other people. I take a lot of pride in how fair and how much I try to work with the media. We’re brothers and sisters. … Now, if those had been real fans sitting there, or if there had been people that knew what they were talking about — football people — I might have had a different answer.”

If Dallas can turn things around, only time will tell. The team will be put to the test as they travel to San Francisco to play the 49ers on Sunday Night Football, even though they have a bye in Week 7.
