Even though it’s only preseason, the Warriors are already setting records. They made 28 long-range baskets against the Kings yesterday, surpassing their regular season record of 27 for the most three-pointers made in a game. Jonathan Kuminga made 4 of his 7 three-point shots, surprising everyone by stepping up from behind the arc.
The Congolese forward was much below the league average last season, making only 32.8% of his 1.7 three-pointers. He made three long-range jumpers off the catch against Sacramento, demonstrating that the Dubs had worked on this area during the off-season.
As he got ready to turn up the volume, Kuminga shared the guidance he had gotten from head coach Steve Kerr. The twenty-two-year-old clarified: “Actually, Coach wants me to take the ones that are open and not think about it. Cause the more you don’t think about it, the more you make them. So that’s just my goal,”
Jonathan Kuminga on his catch-and-shoot 3s (three tonight): “I’m not overthinking it. Coach wants me to take the ones that are open and not think about it. The more you don’t think about it, the more you make them.”

A step forward from Jonathan Kuminga would help Golden State fill the offensive void left by Klay Thompson’s shooting touch and skill departing the team. When shooting the ball, JK would need to keep in mind not to overthink it.
Buddy Hield will also partially compensate for Klay’s absence, but the Warriors have historically performed best when Stephen Curry is flanked by shooters. It’s partly the reason Kuminga has come under fire for clumsily adjusting the spacing around Steph, even if he finishes with efficiency and explosiveness.
