The Milwaukee Bucks Giannis Antetokounmpo just dropped a bomb on us. He went ahead and boldly attempted to rank himself among the greatest players in the history of the NBA. Yeah, you heard that right.
Now, this might sound like some cocky talk, but let’s take a minute to analyze it. The Greek Freak has been putting up incredible numbers, dominating the court, and winning back-to-back MVP awards. He’s unstoppable with his insane athleticism, and that wingspan that can reach the other side of the court.
And you know what? It takes some serious confidence to call yourself one of the greatest. But Giannis isn’t just some random guy making baseless claims.
In a recent video posted by Complex, the two-time MVP responded to a fan’s appreciation post.
“You’re witnessing greatness,” said Antetokounmpo. “As much as people hate on me, and they take my game for granted.”
He doubled down with his reply and added that he’s one of the most efficient players in NBA history. He also made a bold claim that could raise some eyebrows.
“I’ve never seen a player that the other team created defense for him,” said the Bucks star. “Shaq (O’Neal) played his game. Kobe (Bryant) played his game. (Michael) Jordan played his game. KD (Kevin Durant) played his game. LeBron (James) played his game.
“Only one player made the other team create walls for him, and it’s Giannis Antetokounmpo.”
Antetokounmpo was referring to the so-called “Giannis Wall” employed by opposing squads a few seasons ago to limit his attacks to the basket. While he struggled against it at first, he and the Bucks eventually figured it out, en route to claiming their first championship since 1971.
But knowing “The Greek Freak,” he could’ve been simply messing around with his strong remark.
It might seem audacious for Giannis Antetokounmpo to boldly rank himself among the greatest players in the NBA. But when you look at his skills, his achievements, and the impact he’s making, it’s hard to argue against it. Giannis is a legend in the making.
