Why the Cowboys’ Roster Isn’t as Strong as He Anticipated Is Explained by Stephen Jones

The start of the 2024 season crushed the Dallas Cowboys‘ aspirations of at least matching their 12 regular-season victories from the previous three seasons. They have a dismal 3-4 record after two months of play and have suffered three straight home defeats, which supports the predictions of numerous observers that they are a poor football team.

There are a lot of well-known players in important positions on the squad, including Micah Parsons, who will sign his first contract extension next season, and CeeDee Lamb, who is among the most paid players in the league. Beyond that, though, the team’s roster has deteriorated from its 2023 level, making it difficult for it to contend for a Super Bowl appearance.

When the franchise focused all of its expectations on the draft and did virtually little in free agency over the offseason, the warning signs started to appear. It was unable to cover all of its gaps, though, and its most recent college selections haven’t lived up to expectations.

During the summer, the team’s owner, Jerry Jones, cautioned the media that “we have to do more with less,” and the ramifications of this poor management are becoming apparent.

The team is not as good as they had anticipated when the season began.
