After seven straight wins, the Denver Nuggets suffered their first NBA loss of the season on Wednesday as they defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 124-122 at home.
In the final play of the game, 22-year-old Peyton Watson blocked Shai Gilgeous Alexander, making him the Nuggets‘ hero. After missing two free shots that may have cost the Nuggets, Watson made the block, transforming from villain to hero in a matter of seconds.
With a 5-3 record, the 2023 NBA champions won for the third time in a row.
In addition to Russell Westbrook’s 29 points and Christian Braun and Michael Porter Jr.’s 24 points (including six three-pointers), Serbian Nikola Jokic recorded an incredible triple-double with 23 points, 19 rebounds, and 16 assists.
Despite Shai Gilgeous Alexander’s 28 points and Jaylen Williams’ 29 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists—along with three steals—the Thunder lost.
