Fans have been waiting nine years for Rihanna to officially reveal that she is working on her ninth album. Since her 2016 chart-topping album Anti, the 37-year-old singer of “We Found Love” has not put out a new album, preferring to concentrate on her Fenty undergarments and cosmetics brands.
After spending “the whole eight years” in the studio, the superstar has finally disclosed that she has discovered the kind of music she wants to create.
Harper’s Bazaar was told by Rihanna: “I just cracked the code on what I really want to do for my next body of work. I am actually feeling really good about this. I know I kept saying this over the years,”
“The album won’t be a mainstream project,” she continued. She added: “it’s not going to be anything that anybody expects. And it’s not going to be commercial or radio digestible.”
Rihanna claims her new album would be reggae genre
Along with denying rumors that her new music would be reggae-inspired, the nine-time Grammy winner explained why she has been waiting so long to release a new album. She added: “After a while, I looked at it, and I was like, this much time away from music needs to count for the next thing everyone hears. It has to count. It has to matter,”
“I have to show [the fans] it was worth in the wait. I cannot put up anything mediocre. After waiting eight years, you might as well just wait some more.”
As she strives to be conscious and “live in the moment,” Rihanna stated in other parts of the interview that growing older has been both “s***” and a “blessing.” The pop icon started her career in 2003 and has since achieved four UK number one albums and nine UK number one singles.
