After leaving an insulting comment for a server on a restaurant receipt, a Columbus, Ohio, real estate agent lost their job. Stephanie Lovins dined and received service at Cazuelas Mexican Cantina on March 2 from Ricardo, another waiter.
In the signature line of her receipt, Lovins wrote, “I hope Trump deports you,” followed by “Zero,” expressing her annoyance at the restaurant’s policy of only accepting one coupon per table.
The receipt went viral after a restaurant employee posted it on social media. Numerous individuals denounced Lovins’ behavior and demanded that she be held accountable. Her employer, Century 21, launched an internal investigation as a result of the criticism.
Statements by the Racist Realtor and her employer
Later that day, Cazuelas Mexican Cantina released the following statement: “We believe in the power of respect, tolerance, and acceptance. Recently, one of our team members faced an unacceptable situation, and we stand firmly against any form of hate or discrimination. Together, we will continue to create a welcoming space for everyone. Thank you for your unwavering support!”
On Facebook, she attempted damage control. She said: “My credit card was lost/stolen, and someone attempted to use it. Thanks for the notifications! This has been reported through my bank,”
In a related LinkedIn post, she thanked her contacts for bearing with her during the “situation” involving the scammers and profile hackers. But when the restaurant examined surveillance footage, her assertions were shown to be untrue. As the video verified, Lovins was, in fact, inside the restaurant when the event occurred. Century 21 consequently fired her and issued a statement denouncing her actions, emphasizing that “hate has no place within the brand.”
