Alijah Arenas Discharged From the Hospital After Cybertruck Crash

Six days after a catastrophic vehicle accident, Alijah Arenas, a Southern California basketball prospect, has been discharged from the hospital.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the family said: “We are grateful to share that (he) … is now resting comfortably under close watch,”

“While his journey to full recovery is just beginning, his spirit remains strong, and he is surrounded by love and support.”

Three-time NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas is the father of Arenas, a five-star guard in the Trojans’ 2025 recruiting class. The younger Arenas did not sustain any serious injuries in the April 24 collision, his father confirmed on a podcast earlier this week, despite initially being put into a medically induced coma as a result of smoke inhalation.

According to several stories, he was operating a Tesla Cybertruck in Reseda, California, when it collided with a tree and a fire hydrant before catching fire.

Alijah Arenas’ family issues a statement

According to the Los Angeles Times, neither alcohol nor narcotics were thought to have played a role in the collision. According to the family statement:

“The family continues to ask for privacy during this time as they focus on Alijah’s healing and well-being. We thank everyone for the continued prayers, encouragement, and outpouring support.”

Before deciding to join the Trojans, the 6-foot-6 Arenas reportedly rejected offers from Arizona, Kansas, Kentucky, and Louisville. He is ranked as the top shooting guard and seventh overall prospect in the 2025 class by the 247Sports composite. He recently played basketball for Chatsworth High School in Los Angeles and participated in the McDonald’s All-American Game.
