23-Year-Old Mexican Beauty Influencer Valeria Marquez Shot Dead While Live Streaming

While live streaming on TikTok, a 23-year-old Mexican social media influencer Valeria Marquez was shot and killed, according to the state prosecutor’s office.

The state prosecutor’s office in Jalisco claims that Valeria Marquez was killed when a man entered her beauty salon in Guadalajara “and apparently fired a gun at her.”

The state prosecutor stated that although the motive behind the deadly attack has not been determined, the case is being looked into as a femicide, which is defined as the killing of women and girls due to their gender.

In Mexico, gender-based violence is rampant; according to the UN, ten women or girls are killed by partners or family members every day. At her beauty salon in the Zapopan suburb, Ms. Marquez was doing a livestream while seated at a table with a stuffed animal just before she passed away.

She is shot dead a few seconds later, and the video only stops when someone else picks up her phone to turn it off. According to allegations in the local media, a man who pretended to be bringing her a gift killed her. According to the state prosecutor, police confirmed Ms. Marquez’s death when they arrived at the site at approximately 18:30 local time (12:30 GMT).

No suspect was identified by the prosecutor’s office. Fans of Ms. Marquez, who had around 200,000 followers on Instagram and TikTok, have expressed shock at her passing.
