Days before the start of his shocking sex trafficking trial, Sean “Diddy” Combs rejected a last-minute plea bargain. The 55-year-old disgraced rap mogul faces a life sentence in jail if convicted of the very serious charges brought against him.
Prosecutors in court allowed Combs to accept a plea agreement that would have lowered his ultimate term and let him to be released from custody sooner.
However, Combs, wearing a tan prison uniform, turned down the offer during a hearing in a federal court in Manhattan. Since being imprisoned last year, he has maintained his innocence, and he will now stand trial and jury next week.
Combs will face five felony charges, including conspiracy to commit racketeering and sex trafficking, which spans a 20-year period. All of the accusations against him are refuted by the former music producer.
At Thursday’s hearing, the Manhattan US Attorney’s office prosecutor Maurene Comey stated that Combs now faces a harsher sentence if found guilty at trial because of the rejection of the peace proposal.
There have been no additional announcements regarding the government’s offer. Opening remarks for Combs’ case are scheduled to begin on May 12, and a jury of twelve New Yorkers will be selected on May 5.
At least eight weeks are anticipated to pass during the drawn-out experiment. In recent days, a judge confirmed that Combs will be permitted to attend the proceedings dressed in his own attire.
He is presently incarcerated in a Brooklyn jail pending trial. The well-known rapper is charged with running Bad Boy Records as a “criminal enterprise” for over ten years and abusing multiple women.
