A 30-year-old soccer coach and former teacher at Downers Grove South High School, Christina Formella, showed up for a status hearing on Tuesday morning.
In conjunction with the case, the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday that a former West Suburban teacher who was suspected of having an inappropriate contact with a pupil faces 52 more charges.
The alleged victim, who was 15 years old at the time of the alleged abuse, and his parents reported Formella, his soccer coach and tutor, to the Downers Grove Police Department on March 15.
A charge of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse, one offense of Criminal Sexual Assault, and one count of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse were the reasons for Formella’s initial court appearance on March 17.
However, according to the state’s attorney’s office, she is now facing new charges for assaulting the girl and sexually abusing her in ways that were previously undisclosed.
NEW: High school teacher Christina Formella smacked with 52 additional charges, allegedly had s*x with a 14-year-old boy at least 45 different times.
Formella was first arrested back in March on what was initially believed to be an isolated incident.

The purported mistreatment lasted from January 2023 to August or September 2024.
Formella and the victim allegedly had at least 50 sexual encounters during that time, including at least 45 at the school and several more at her house. Formella allegedly sent the student texts “that were grooming in nature,” according to the office of the state’s attorney.
