Magic Johnson Dismmisses Knicks Chasing Giannis Antetokounmpo

Magic Johnson has commented on the New York Knicks’ strategies for the offseason, suggesting they should not pursue a trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks.

Instead, the NBA Hall of Famer believes that targeting Kevin Durant, who is currently with the Phoenix Suns, would be a better fit for the Knicks’ lineup.

During his appearance on ESPN’s Get Up, Johnson expressed doubts about the Knicks successfully acquiring Antetokounmpo, mentioning the team’s limited assets and the Bucks’ probable hesitation to let go of their franchise player.

He said,  “I don’t think they’re gonna get Giannis. I think Giannis stays in Milwaukee.”

“The Knicks are too slow. They’re not gonna beat Indiana next year or these other teams. They gotta get a little faster, right?”

“Kevin Durant will allow them to get faster and be a guy that can help Brunson in the fourth quarter.”

“A champion, he can teach the other guys how to win the championship.”

He pointed out that the Knicks’ existing roster lacks the necessary speed. He also spoke of depth to compete effectively at the highest level, especially within the Eastern Conference.

Durant is a desirable option for the Knicks because of his approaching free agency and the Suns’ possible rebuilding phase.
