Although Angel Reese has made WNBA history, her team has suffered another defeat. With yet another overpowering performance near the paint, the Chicago Sky star power forward has further demonstrated why she has earned her nickname.
Reese’s Sky has a 5-11 record going into Sunday’s matchup with the Minnesota Lynx. The Sky failed to capitalize on Reese’s outstanding performance, which saw him score 16 points and grab 17 rebounds in 37 minutes, as the Lynx emerged victorious with an 80-75 victory.
However, Reese broke a WNBA record with the performance. In five straight games, Reese grabbed at least 15 rebounds, becoming him the first player in league history to do so.
In games against the Atlanta Dream, Golden State Valkyries, and twice the Los Angeles Sparks, the second-year player had pulled down that many rebounds and more.
Reese had more rebounds than points in three of those five games. The reason “mebounds” has been used to describe Reese’s rebounding style is demonstrated by her current run.
Because the 23-year-old frequently misses layups and grabs the offensive rebound, the word has been used to disparage her play. Only two of Reese’s five games of dominating the rebounding have seen her average five rebounds a game and post a field-goal percentage of over 45.
She responded to the taunts by filing to trademark the term “mebounds” last month.
