The wrestling community is currently grieving the loss of a true legend, Hulk Hogan, who passed away at the age of 71 on Thursday. Hogan had been in recovery from what was described as a “pretty serious” heart surgery. His wife, Sky Daily, previously dispelled rumors about him being in a coma just a few weeks ago, but sadly, he could not overcome complications related to that surgery and a past neck operation.
The WWE released a statement shortly after the news emerged, describing Hogan as “one of pop culture’s most recognizable figures” and acknowledging his role in helping the organization gain “global recognition in the 1980s.”
Hogan is regarded as a trailblazer in the world of professional wrestling, and his achievements are substantial.
His iconic image began to take shape when he joined the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in 1983. His signature horseshoe mustache and bandanas, combined with his charisma and crowd-engaging abilities, made him a beloved figure among fans. As a major icon in the sport, Hogan accrued numerous accolades throughout his career.
Hulk Hogan’s achievements in wrestling
He headlined eight of the first nine WrestleMania events, playing a crucial role in bringing professional wrestling into mainstream media. During his initial tenure with WWE/WWF, Hogan captured the Championship five times, later earning a sixth title in 2002.
From 1994 to 1999, Hogan also secured the WCW World Heavyweight Championship six times during his time with World Championship Wrestling. He triumphed in the Royal Rumble consecutively in 1990 and 1991, and won the WWE Tag Team Championship alongside Edge in 2002.
Ultimately, Hogan was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005 and later as part of the New World Order in 2020. Additionally, he was honored in the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum in 2003.
