Arkansas Wide Receiver Monte Harrison is entering his sophomore season at the ripe old age of 30 – after spending a whole decade playing pro baseball! Talk about a wild journey!
Harrison has had quite the career, playing for multiple MLB teams before deciding to pursue his college dreams and join the Arkansas Razorbacks. And let me tell you, he is a beast on the field. With his experience and skills, he’s definitely one to watch out for in the upcoming season.
A decade ago, Harrison was a high school football standout and committed to play at Nebraska. But in 2014, the Milwaukee Brewers drafted him in the second round of the MLB Draft. He chose a professional baseball career over college football, a decision that sent him on a ten-year journey through minor league systems, eventually reaching the majors with both the Miami Marlins and Los Angeles Angels.
He played 50 games in the big leagues, even earning a spot in the trade that sent Christian Yelich to the Brewers.
Yet Harrison’s passion for football never faded. After stepping away from baseball in 2023, he walked on to the Arkansas football program in June 2024. Despite his unconventional path, coaches took notice.
In limited action last season, he caught two passes for 29 yards and recovered an onside kick-becoming only the second player in FBS history to record a game stat after appearing in a major league baseball game.
Though listed as a freshman, NCAA rules allow him up to three seasons of eligibility due to his never having played college football before. That means Harrison could remain on the Razorbacks’ roster until age 33.
The Razorbacks are coming off a disappointing 2023 season and looking to reinvent their offense. Harrison’s size, speed, and background make him an intriguing weapon-and a potential leader among much younger teammates.
It just goes to show you that it’s never too late to chase your dreams, no matter how unconventional your path may be. Cheers to Monte Harrison for following his passion and showing us all that age is just a number!
