Trevor Ariza Wants Court To Slash His Child Support Payments Because He’s Broke

Apparently Trevor Ariza, the former basketball player, is looking to lower his child support payments because he says he’s broke. I mean, who knew that NBA players could struggle with money? But hey, life hits you fast and hard sometimes.

It’s wild to think that someone who has been making millions in the NBA is now asking the court to cut him some slack on child support. I guess it just goes to show that no matter how much money you make, you got to be smart with it and make the right choices.

The 2009 NBA champion and longtime NBA forward, who earned over $116 million across 18 seasons, is now facing serious financial hardship.

In new court filings related to his divorce from Bree Anderson, Ariza detailed the extent of his post-retirement struggles:

No steady income, Ariza says he’s been unemployed since retiring, with $0 in monthly earnings

Living off retirement savings just to stay afloat
Hasn’t filed taxes since 2022
Pays $14,000/month in child support to Bree
Also pays $10,000/month in other child support and $4,000/month in spousal support
Reports a negative $230,000 bank balance and negative $4.7 million in property value

Monthly expenses top $37,000, including:
$18.8K mortgage
$2K groceries
$4.3K in auto expenses
$2K for education
$3.3K for car loan payments

Ariza says the situation has become even more unbalanced because he’s now the primary caregiver for their son, Tristan, since late 2023:

“I’ve taken full responsibility — meals, clothes, school, everything. Bree rarely picks him up or shows up on her days,” he said.

He also claims Bree has cut off his relationship with their daughter, Taylor:

“I’ve tried to stay involved, but she blocks me. She won’t respond.”

According to Ariza, Bree left the marriage with a luxury car, real estate, and half of his retirement accounts, yet refuses to work or contribute financially, despite being capable.

“I’ve been exploring deals, trying everything to create income. Nothing stable has come through. Things changed since we finalized this,” Ariza said.

He’s now asking the court to revise the original support terms, arguing that his current financial status is nowhere near what it was when the agreement was made.

Let’s see how this all plays out for Ariza. Hopefully, he gets everything sorted and can support his kids without too much of a financial burden.
