Hello, Abdul Carter. Welcome to the NFL. Despite playing well in two preseason games, the Giants’ No. 3 choice in the draft was not impervious to mistakes. The Penn State product tried to rush the passer on one play against the Jets on Saturday, but Jets tight end Stone Smartt easily blew him off and knocked him to the ground.
Jets tackle Chukwuma Okorafor then knocked Carter back to the ground as he attempted to stand up. Having his way in opponents’ backfields is nothing new to the defending Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year.

In his final season in college, Carter recorded 12 sacks. Last week, in his preseason debut against the Bills, he successfully applied multiple pressures to their offensive line, including one against Bills Pro Bowl tackle Dion Dawkins. However, on this play, Carter was swiftly pushed to his back before he could even reach the backfield.
Although Carter was able to apply immediate pressure against the Jets this week, any other highlights may have been overshadowed by being blocked in that manner by Smartt and Okorafor.
