According to TMZ, Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman was taken into custody in Los Angeles on Friday. Law enforcement sources claim that the NFL player was arrested on a felony charge of possessing an assault weapon after being picked up by officials from the South Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station on Friday night.
When police checked his car on his way to the shooting range, they discovered three handguns and two AR rifles in the trunk. The rifles were non-compliant, which is against the law in California.
As of Saturday morning, he remains incarcerated and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday. Denzel has never been charged with a felony. As fans may recall, he was suspended without pay for three games in 2023 after repeatedly breaking the NFL’s player safety regulations. At the time, he was a member of the Houston Texans.
San Diego, which subsequently changed its name to the L.A. Chargers, selected Denzel in the 2015 NFL Draft. Before being signed by the Carolina Panthers, he spent six years playing for the team. But a few months later, he was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders, and in 2023, he signed a contract with the Texans.
In 2024, he returned to the Chargers.
