On the local broadcast of the Denver Broncos’ 27-7 preseason victory over the Arizona Cardinals, an embarrassing mix-up occurred due to fake comments that were credited to Micah Parsons.
After months of fruitless extension negotiations, Parsons, 26, is embroiled in a contract dispute with the Dallas Cowboys and even demanded a trade earlier in training camp.
Rumors have been circulating regarding his potential football location in the event that the Cowboys are unable to reach an extension, adding to the uncertainty surrounding his future.
One of those rumors, though, which focused on a trade to the Broncos, was based on completely made-up remarks. When they displayed the quotes on television and used them in-game, the 9News crew, who were local broadcasters of the game, was sadly unaware of their veracity.
The quotes appeared during the difficult moment and read: “My dream destination? Denver. I would love to play for the Broncos.” “They already got the best defense in the league and they have a real chance at a Super Bowl.”
Ryan Harris, a former Broncos offensive tackle and 2016 Super Bowl champion with Denver, rushed to social media following the event to raise his hands and acknowledge that he was responsible for the phony quotations getting lost in the shuffle. He wrote: “Lesson learned: more diligence
“In the Broadcast of Broncos-Cardinals game I brought a tweet to the broadcast team that made the air that turned out to be fake.
“The post had graphics that quoted a remark that was attributed to Micah Parsons of the Dallas Cowboys. Regrettably, this remark was never spoken.
“I satisfied neither my own professional standards, nor those of the elite team at 9NEWS.
“Throughout my playing and broadcasting career I make it a point to learn from my mistakes. I have learned from this instance and will not make this mistake again.
“My sincere apologies to the NFL, 9News and the Denver Broncos. Read and Verify!”
It appears that Parsons will not be playing for the Broncos in the real future. The defensive end is expected to earn about $24 million this season as he enters the fifth year of his rookie contract with Dallas.
