In his parking lot shooting case, Shawn Kemp was given a 30-day jail term; however, the former NBA player will be able to complete his time at home.
Late Friday afternoon, a Pierce County judge delivered the decision… and the former Seattle Supersonic appeared composed upon hearing it.
Just before being sentenced, Kemp told the judge that he was “very apologetic” for the actions that resulted in the criminal accusations against him. He was dressed in a navy suit jacket, tan slacks, white shirt, and light blue tie.
Naturally, the case started in 2023 after Kemp was accused of shooting two guys at a Tacoma mall after they allegedly stole some of his belongings, including a phone.
Kemp first entered a not guilty plea, claiming he was acting in “self-defense.” However, he settled the case in May by entering a guilty plea to a lower charge of second-degree assault.
Kemp had been the target of a nine-month prison sentence from the prosecution. Attorneys for the former basketball player contended that he shouldn’t be given any more time.
Kemp was backed in court by a number of pals, including former NFL standout Marshawn Lynch.
