John Mateer Describes Johnny Manziel’s Amusing Distinction

Following Oklahoma’s victory over Auburn, John Mateer shared one of his all-time favorite quotes about former Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel.

Uncertain of the connection here? It all began when a reporter asked Mateer about the moniker “Money Mateer,” which was a clear parody of the moniker given to former Heisman quarterback Johnny Manziel, “Money Manziel.”

Mateer jokingly remarked that he doesn’t believe he and Manziel are sufficiently alike to warrant a moniker like Money Mateer. Mateer merely responded as follows when asked what he thinks separates him from the past Heisman winner: “I’m going to church in the morning.”

Mateer has already made some analogies on the field, but he may continue to deny the personal comparisons to Manziel.

In particular, Mateer is a strong candidate to win the Heisman Trophy, which Manziel became the first rookie to win in 2012. As of right now, Mateer has the best odds in the nation at +700 to win the Heisman.

Mateer’s skill has already helped Oklahoma defeat two top 25 teams, Michigan and Auburn. In addition to rushing for five touchdowns and just under 200 yards on the ground this season, the dual-threat quarterback has now thrown for over 1000 yards and six touchdowns.
