Tom Brady Was ‘Supposed to Be’ the Raiders Quarterback in 2020, According to Mark Davis

Years after his playing days, Tom Brady is a multi-talented figure in the football world, most famously serving as the Raiders’ minority owner and Fox’s top color analyst.

Mark Davis, the primary owner of Las Vegas, claims that once Brady departed the Patriots in 2020, he was on the verge of joining the team as quarterback. When Brady made an appearance on LeBron James’s HBO show The Shop in 2021, he sparked speculation that one of the teams he spoke to in free agency had abruptly changed their minds and chosen to stick with another quarterback.

Brady stated: “One of the teams, they weren’t interested at the very end,”. “I was thinking, you’re sticking with that mother——?”

Davis also seems to support White’s claim that general manager Mike Mayock and former Las Vegas coach Jon Gruden cancelled the transaction in favor of Raiders veteran Derek Carr. Davis said to retired NBA player and Raiders content creator Baron Davis: “[Brady] was supposed to be here in 2020,”

“That’s when our relationship started, was in 2020 when he was a free agent and we talked to him about coming here to play quarterback. And obviously, it was a tough decision for him, he was close to coming here, but the head coach and general manager decided they wanted to go in a different direction. So, we didn’t sign him, but as I got to know him through that process, I let his agent know that when he was done playing, I would like him to be a part of our organization.”

On the one hand, seeing an NFL owner make football decisions by consulting his football personnel is quite refreshing. But Mayock and Gruden really messed up on this one.
