Terry Rozier, guard for the Miami Heat, was arrested early Thursday morning in Orlando. This was part of a major federal investigation into illegal sports betting, according to sources. The operation, spearheaded by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, involves a casino-linked gambling ring tied to manipulating NBA player-prop bets.
The investigation centers on a March 23, 2023 game, when Rozier played for the Charlotte Hornets against the New Orleans Pelicans and logged just under ten minutes before leaving. He exits citing a foot problem—and does not return this season.
That same night, sportsbooks detected unusually heavy betting on the “under” for his performance stats, triggering alerts and an internal NBA review. At the time, the league found no rule violations.
Rozier, 31, had avoided public scrutiny until his arrest, which came amid a broader crackdown on betting irregularities across U.S. sports. Legal experts say federal prosecutors’ involvement could expose deeper insider-information rings and threaten player contracts worth tens of millions.
The NBA has yet to comment on Rozier’s status, but his arrest adds new urgency to the league’s battle against gampling-related manipulations.
