Paul Pierce was arrested late Tuesday evening after the California Highway Patrol reported that they found him asleep behind the wheel of a Range Rover SUV on U.S. Highway 101 in Los Angeles.
In a statement posted on Threads on Thursday, Pierce attributed the entire situation to being “old” and “tired,” and explained that the CHP’s decision to close lanes for almost an hour to investigate an accident was what led to the incident. He wrote:
“Imagine being stuck in stand still traffic for 45 mins and falling asleep 🤦🏾♂️,”

The photo Pierce included with his message shows multiple cars with their brake lights illuminated. However, Pierce did not respond to the claims suggesting he had consumed alcohol before falling asleep.
It remains uncertain whether Pierce will face any criminal charges regarding the incident, as the CHP mentioned they are currently working on presenting a case to the L.A. City Attorney’s Office for evaluation.
