Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier faced a $8,218,211 IRS tax lien filed in late 2023 in Broward County, Florida. That same year, he stood accused in a federal gambling scheme involving insider information from NBA games.

Records obtained by ESPN show the lien covered unpaid federal income taxes, adding another layer to Rozier’s growing legal challenges. Records also show a construction lien filed against Rozier in August 2022. Around the same time, federal investigators linked him to an illegal sports betting network that allegedly used insider information from NBA games.

Prosecutors claim Rozier tipped off a friend, Deniro Laster, he would leave a March 2023 game early. That friend then reportedly passed the tip to gamblers for about $100,000, who wagered on Rozier’s “under” stats and won big.

FBI Director Kash Patel say the scheme stretched across multiple NBA games between 2022 and 2024, generating thousands in illegal profits.

Terry Rozier signed a four-year contract worth $96.3 million with the Charlotte Hornets on August 24, 2021. He was traded to the Miami Heat on January 23, 2024, and has earned $161.7 million in career salary, including this season.

Despite his lucrative contract, Rozier’s large tax debt and criminal accusations have clouded his career and public image. As of October 2025, no court record shows the lien resolved. The case underscores how financial stress and gambling access can collide in professional sports, threatening both personal reputations and league integrity.
