The simmering frustration of star wide receiver AJ Brown reached the highest levels of the Philadelphia Eagles organization last week, culminating in a highly unusual on-field meeting with owner Jeffrey Lurie that was facilitated by the team’s widely known security chief, Dom DiSandro.
The impromptu discussion, which lasted approximately 10 minutes, occurred at Thursday’s practice, according to a senior team official, and was intended to address Brown’s public complaints about his role and the overall performance of the Eagles’ offense.
The Role of ‘Big Dom’
The meeting was reportedly initiated by DiSandro—affectionately known as “Big Dom”—who serves as the team’s chief security officer and holds other front-office duties. Sources say DiSandro, who has been with the organization for nearly three decades, waved Brown over to the sideline to speak directly with Lurie.
The extraordinary nature of the conversation was not lost on team personnel, who told ESPN it was the first time they could recall DiSandro facilitating a meeting between the owner and a player during practice. DiSandro often acts as a liaison and confidant for players, and his intervention underscores the severity of the rift that had developed.
Brown Apologizes, Lurie Offers Support
Brown’s discontent became a major storyline following an explicit comment on a livestream where he called the Eagles’ situation a “sh– show,” and later elaborated on his desire for the offense to pick up its slack.
During the meeting, Brown reportedly pledged to Lurie that he would “tone it down” and stop airing his grievances on social media. While doing so, he reiterated his core frustration: he wants to be utilized more within the offense and is upset by the unit’s lack of production.
Lurie, for his part, reportedly told Brown he did not need to apologize. The conversation concluded with a hug between the owner and the three-time Pro Bowler before Brown returned to practice.
The intervention by Lurie and DiSandro appears to be a direct attempt to quell internal turmoil ahead of a critical stretch of the season. The 7-2 Eagles now look to regain focus on the field as they prepare for their upcoming matchup, hoping the 10-minute sit-down translates into better chemistry and production on offense.
