Erin Andrews is opening up about the sacrifices one should expect to make to get to the top in the sports industry.
Erin Andrews is the kind of woman who can stand on the sideline in freezing weather, smile like it’s springtime, and still deliver perfect NFL analysis without missing a beat. But according to her, all that success didn’t just come wrapped in a sideline pass. It came with sacrifices, big ones. And she finally opened up about them.
You miss out on a lot of holidays, weddings, events and you live out of a suitcase – @ErinAndrews explaining why you have to love what you do to work in sports pic.twitter.com/yf5gDbwY5P

On her podcast with Charissa Thompson, Andrews talked about what it really took to get where she is. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t just fancy blazers. She missed birthdays, holidays, vacations, and probably more brunches than legally allowed. While most people schedule lunch breaks, she scheduled flight connections and pregame breakdowns.
“This is what one of my first professors said,” Andrews relayed. “‘If you don’t want to make $40,000 in your first job, get out. If you don’t want to be told you need a nose job, get out. If you don’t want to be divorced, get out. If you don’t want to work holidays, get out.’”
“And I don’t say it like that, but I say you got to love what you do because I miss all holidays. I didn’t get married until I was in my 40s. Not that that is going to be your route, but I live out of a suitcase. I miss a lot of stuff. I missed a lot of weddings. I miss a lot of events. You have to love it to get you through the fact, ‘I’m not gonna be home for Thanksgiving next week’ or ‘Christmas is cut short.’”
Her message is simple: success costs something. And she paid in time, energy, and probably several pairs of frozen toes.
