After the Raiders’ 24–10 loss to the Browns on Sunday, quarterback Geno Smith was seen on camera making an offensive gesture toward spectators at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
After the game, a video of Smith flipping off spectators went viral on social media. Smith took the time to apologize for his gesture on Wednesday.
Speaking to media following practice, Smith stated:
“I made a poor judgement out of frustration. That’s not an excuse, I’ve got to be better than that and I’ve got to hold myself to a higher standard. In that moment, I didn’t. I’m sincerely apologetic and I’m very sorry, obviously, for doing that. I just want to make it known that those things will never happen to me again,”

Smith has had a difficult season in his debut season with the Raiders, and it appears like his frustrations reached a breaking point following yet another poor performance in the Week 12 defeat.
The Raiders fell to 2-9 after Sunday’s loss to Cleveland, which resulted in the dismissal of offensive coordinator Chip Kelly. This was the team’s fifth straight defeat.
Smith has thrown 13 touchdowns and a league-high 13 interceptions this season. His first year in Las Vegas hasn’t gone as planned, and the fan base wasn’t pleased with his actions following the defeat.
