Isaac Johnson, an MMA fighter, passed away on Friday night after suffering injuries during a fight close to Chicago.
Reports from NBC 5 Chicago Following an injury sustained during his bout with Mario Aleksandrovski at Cicero Stadium, Johnson passed out.
Johnson died a few hours later, shortly after midnight, when an ambulance was dispatched to the stadium at 8:38 PM local time to take “an injured fighter” to the hospital.
An autopsy has been planned by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office to ascertain Johnson’s cause of death.
Johnson passed the required physical before to the fight, according to Joe Goytia, the producer of the Matador Fighter Challenge, which Johnson was competing in, who spoke with Fox 5 Washington, D.C.
In an homage to Isaac, Mission MMA & Fitness, a well-known Chicago school for mixed martial arts fighters, described him as “an incredible person.” A caring parent and a wonderful friend. We all miss him. Additionally, the gym requested that visitors respect his family’s privacy.
