New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd is in critical condition after being shot early Sunday morning outside a midtown Manhattan restaurant following a dispute, according to law enforcement sources.
The incident has stunned the Jets organization and the NFL, shifting focus from the field to a serious off-field tragedy.
The Assault and Hospitalization
The shooting took place at approximately 2 a.m. Sunday near West 38th Street and Seventh Avenue, a bustling area known for its nightlife and restaurants. Multiple sources indicate that Boyd, 29, was shot in the abdomen outside the restaurant Sei Less after an argument turned violent and the attacker fired two shots.
Boyd, who joined the Jets in March, was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
The New York Jets acknowledged the situation with a brief statement: “We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time.” The NFL also confirmed it is in contact with the franchise.
Investigation Underway
As of Sunday morning, the New York Police Department has made no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
Authorities are actively searching for the suspect, who reportedly fled the scene in a BMW X8 SUV. The NYPD is expected to review surveillance footage from the dense commercial area in an effort to piece together the events that led to the shooting and identify the individual responsible.
Boyd, a veteran cornerback and special teams standout, was originally a seventh-round pick in 2019 and previously played for the Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, and Houston Texans. He was placed on the season-ending injured reserve list in August after sustaining a shoulder injury during training camp.
The Jets community now awaits further news on Boyd’s condition as the NYPD races to apprehend the shooter involved in the violent altercation.
