Ben Simmons has turned his focus on professional sport fishing team after buying stake in it.
Ben Simmons has done it again. Just when fans thought his NBA return was loading, it buffered. Hard. According to reports, Simmons has put his basketball comeback on hold after buying a pro-sport fishing team. Yes, fishing, rods, boats and fish that do not care about jump shots.
NBA Twitter didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Some did both. Because if there’s one thing Ben Simmons is consistent at, it’s surprising people in ways nobody asked for.

The timing is perfect. Teams are watching film. Players are training. And Ben is apparently watching bass. Somewhere, a coach is staring at his phone like, “So… you’re fishing now?”
South Florida Sails Angling Club, a group in the Sports Fishing Championship, announced Tuesday that Simmons had purchased an ownership stake in the team, per Sam Jane of The Athletic.
“I have always believed that investing in what you love means you have a responsibility to help move it forward,” Simmons said as part of the announcement, via Jane. “Sportfishing has given me incredible experiences, and SFC is creating a platform that treats offshore fishing like the elite sport it is.”
Critics say this proves he’s not serious about basketball. Supporters say he’s living his life. Neutral fans say they just want answers, or at least a jump shot.
In the end, Ben Simmons buying a fishing team feels symbolic. He’s literally stepping away from the spotlight and toward quieter waters. No noise. No pressure. Just waiting patiently for something to bite.
So for now, the NBA will go on without him. And Ben Simmons will be somewhere on a boat, staring at the water, chasing something that actually wants to be caught.
