Cristina, the wife of NASCAR winner Greg Biffle, sent a terrifying message just before the couple, their family, and three others perished in an aircraft crash, Cristina’s mother tells PEOPLE.
Cristina Grossu Biffle, 35, texted her mother Cathy Grossu just before she passed away on Thursday, December 18, saying, “We’re in trouble,” Cathy tells PEOPLE.
Cathy sobs as she says:
“She texted me from the plane and she said, ‘We’re in trouble.’ And that was it,” “So we’re devastated. We’re brokenhearted.”
In all, seven persons were killed in the collision: Craig Wadsworth, Dennis Dutton and his son Jack, Greg, 55, Cristina, their five-year-old son Ryder, and Greg’s fourteen-year-old daughter Emma (who he shared with his ex-wife Nicole Lunders).
Before the catastrophe, Cathy claims that Greg, her step-granddaughter Emma, and her grandson Ryder “had so much life” and were “doing so many good things”.
One of her final discussions with her daughter, according to Cathy, was about the Santa letters Cristina would send “at her own expense” to underprivileged families.
