Dan Campbell Gets Emotional on Lions Elimination

After the Vikings eliminated the Lions, Dan Campbell was brutally honest. This Christmas, with the Lions’ prospects of making the playoffs on the line in Minnesota, Detroit made six mistakes and quarterback Jared Goff was sacked five times as the Lions lost 23–10 to a Vikings club that had little to gain other than pride.

Against a Lions team that had everything to gain, the Minnesota defense—known as the Grinch to everyone in Honolulu Blue—played spoiler. Detroit appeared uninspired as the Vikings won thanks to Brian Flores’s team.

Following this defeat, the Lions will exchange their joyous sense of triumph for somber contemplation at the start of 2026.

Following the game, head coach Dan Campbell stated:

“I’m gonna be looking at a lot,”. “I’m gonna be looking at a lot of things because I do not like being home for the playoffs. I know our guys don’t either.” “Whenever you lose, it takes a village. Everybody’s involved, including myself. I’m always gonna look at myself first. I’m always gonna wish I gave Goff more, gave those players more.”

The Lions hadn’t dropped consecutive games in three years until last week. They have already dropped their last three games, securing their place on the sofa for January. Not only did the Lions lose these games, but they also failed to perform to the best of their abilities when it mattered most.
