Deommodore Lenoir is catching heat for a no-show at children with Down Syndrome holiday charity event.
Things got awkward fast in Santa Cruz, and no, it wasn’t because of a blown coverage. This time, the drama didn’t happen on the field. It happened at a holiday charity event that never quite got the guest star it was promised. According to organizers, 49ers’ Deommodore Lenoir skipped a children’s holiday event meant for children with Down syndrome. And yes, people noticed.
Organizers claim Lenoir was expected to attend, smile for photos, and spread some holiday cheer. The usual stuff. Santa hats, high fives and happy kids. Instead, they say the chair reserved for him stayed empty. No show. No appearance. Just confused parents and disappointed kids and organizers wondering what went wrong.
A representative for Lenoir denied the accusations to the outlet. The Daily Mail has also reached out for comment.
The furious organizers claimed that they had repeatedly tried to get in contact with the NFL players but alleged that he ignored their desperate calls.
The event, which was held at the Chaminade Resort and Spa, was organized on behalf of The Matthew Foundation, a charitable organization that strives to improve the quality of life for persons with Down Syndrome throughout their life spans.
Could it be that there was miscommunication or mixed up somewhere?
Lenoir was slated to make an appearance to benefit the event and was even advertised as a special guest on the organizers’ Instagram pages two weeks ago.
According to his representative, Lenoir was excited to host the event, which was for a cause close to his heart as his sister also has Down Syndrome.
However, he reportedly changed his mind around two weeks before the event after allegedly learning that adults would also be attending. He then is said to no longer want to participate.
Yet, organizers disputed that version of events, claiming that they only discovered he wouldn’t be attending until the last minute.
‘There was no misunderstanding,’ a spokesperson told TMZ, ‘He just chose not to come.’
In the end, nobody won. Organizers feel let down. Families felt disappointed. Fans also felt confused, and Lenoir is trending for the wrong reasons.
Hopefully, this turns into a lesson about communication and accountability. Or at least checking your calendar twice.
