Fans are roasting Odell Beckham Jr for complaining about his $100 million contract.
Odell Beckham Jr., NFL superstar, and apparently, master of first-world problems, recently made headlines for saying it’s hard to live comfortably on his $100 million contract. And the internet did not take it lightly.
Yes, you read that right. OBJ, a man who has been paid more in a single season than most of us will see in a lifetime, said life isn’t easy with that kind of money. Cue the immediate fan meltdown.
Twitter exploded. Memes appeared faster than OBJ can catch a one-handed touchdown.
Beckham, 33, has an estimated wealth of around $45m from a lucrative career that has seen him win the Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams. He signed a five-year deal with the New York Giants worth up to $95m in 2018, as well as agreeing a five-year Nike deal in 2017 worth around $5m-a-year.
But despite the millions he earned from reaching the top of the game, the man who briefly dated Kim Kardashian in 2024 has insisted it doesn’t mean he is financially secure for the rest of his life – all while listing ‘flaunting’ as one of his expenses.
‘I always explain this to people, you give somebody a five-year, $100million contract. It’s five years for 60. We’re getting taxed. That’s 12 (million) a year that you have to spend, use, save, invest, flaunt, whatever,’ Beckham said on The Pivot Podcast.
‘I’m just being real. I’m going to buy a car, get my mom a house. Everything costs money. If you’re spending $4million-a-year, that’s really $40million over five years, eight million a year.
‘You start breaking down the numbers and that’s a five-year span you’re getting eight million. Can you make that last forever?’
So, if you’re feeling rich, stressed, and misunderstood, remember: someone out there has $100 million and thinks life is “hard.” And the internet will definitely remind them how ridiculous that sounds.
